We take care of our healthcare by means of 2 tiers of insurance. The first tier is disaster sickness - for this, insurance is the answer. Healthcare coverage plans which contain a high deductible (for example, $2,500 a year) are not very expensive, even when the benefit is extremely generous ($5,000,000). This is because most individuals don't get catastrophic illnesses or physical injuries.
The next level compromises health maintenance as well as regular medical treatments. For these, health coverage is not the answer. Instead, there are 2 alternatives. the first is for people to cover these costs by their own means. There exist several benefits, including the absence of managed care and less bureaucratic procedures. For a lot of persons, raising the money to cover routine medical bills, when they know that any catastrophic sickness or physical injury would trigger a backing insurance policy, there would not be a problem...especially because of the favorable tax treatment offered by their HSA.
As of October 1, 2007, Blue Cross Blue Shield will not only require the $30.00 non-refundable application fee, they will also require the first month premium be paid at the time of the application. Sould underwriting decide approved coverage at a higher premium, the difference from the original quote and the new premium amount, will be billed to the customer at a later date.
